PhD Research Proposal Writing Habbits — Research Proposal

Once you have completed the research for your PhD research proposal, you are ready to start the bulk of your writing. Your PhD dissertation supervisor may be able to tell you when you have collected enough research on the topic of study.  This is when you can review your findings and form the conclusion of your thesis.  There are some people who are under much pressure to produce more data information on certain topics of research.  A deadline on each dissertation  project helps you to move on to something else that is new and interesting.  A good reference from a dissertation supervisor or teacher is important, so be sure to produce the correct amount of research they are asking for, and do it punctually.  This will help you to get a job, so be sure to work hard.  This is how you will get paid later on in life, so it is important to learn as much as you possible can from this thesis writing project.

If you are persistent, then you will get more done in a shorter time.  In certain academics, there are more serious deadlines.  As such, it can be extremely import to keep track of time and punctuality.  Some days are better than others, and you as a person can get a lot accomplished.  On other days, you may not accomplish quite as much.  It’s a good idea to gather information and have it readily available or fresh in your mind so you can successfully write about what you have learned or researched.

Staying away from the procrastination loop is very important.  Don’t forget to set aside time to take breaks in between your work to give your self time to clear your mind.  That helps to prevent yourself from getting board or side tracked.  Refreshing your brain for a few minutes may allow you to stay focused for the duration of the study.  You may not lose interest as easily and may instead get back to the computer wanting to do more.  Stick to the system of only turning on the computer when you know what you are going to be working on.  That helps keep you on track while on the computer.  Then you will get into the habit of working while on the computer. This may also help you stay away from procrastinating.  That will help you take control of any assignment small or large.

The structure of your PhD dissertation is very important and allowing yourself a break every 25 minutes will help you stay structured not only with your work, but with yourself by allowing yourself a routine or schedule.  You are more likely to get your work done in a timely manner if you have something to look forward to such as a break.  If you don’t set a set schedule your rate of productivity may reduce.  If you continue to work until you run out of steam or drive, then the next day you will be less interested in the task at hand. In contrast, if you work until your scheduled time and leave yourself an easy project to get back to the following day, you will have something to look forward to.  This will keep you motivated with the project at hand.

Some people do not have a computer at home, so any work place with little or no distraction is ideal to help keep focused.  Every professional writer needs a space where they feel comfortable writing.  Your working environment is very important.  Add something to help you to relax and stay focused.  There may add a plant or some other decoration.  Make sure to have the correct lighting and a comfortable chair. It should be a place you will enjoy returning to work.  Keep your desk or work area as neat and organized as possible. Again, avoid anything that could distract you in your working area. Following these tips will help you to successfully write your PhD dissertation.

PhD Dissertation Writing Tips

PhD dissertation writing requires self discipline. There are many deadlines of a job that are self imposed.  If you don’t meet your deadline there will be many consequences.  If you set up a good deadline yourself, then you’re setting a goal and taking full control of this project.  If you get stuck with an expected deadline, then it is something that is being imposed on you. There are many external consequences if you don’t meet important deadlines.   In order to have communication between the student and supervisor, there must be feed back between both parties. If you keep skipping your deadline or postponing it, then it is going to throw you off your daily routine.  If your supervisor knows the exact deadline, then you can plan accordingly.

If you set a time to have your PhD dissertation complete and inform your supervisor that you will turn your assignment in by a certain date, then your project is less likely to be put to the bottom of the pile that may be on his desk.  He or she will be expecting it, which will make it more likely to be noticed.  Another way to do it is to place a bet.  If you know someone else who is writing at the same time, and you bet something significant, then you will have another incentive.  Do whatever it takes to give yourself some consequences.   If you see it as a race between two people, then you will have something to strive for.  Competition is a compelling element.

If you think outside of the box, there are ways to give yourself motivation.  If you struggle with deadlines, there are ways to keep you on task and motivated. There are projects that are very challenging, and it may be easy to get side tracked; however, staying on task is very important.  Any time you have a project at hand, it is a good idea to collect data for future exercises that you may encounter.  There is always the temptation to do more because there are always things that are undone.  So staying focused on what needs to be done will help to keep you on task throughout the project whether you are writing a PhD dissertation  or working on something completely different.  Seeing your PhD dissertation writing as a part of the field you are studying helps to keep you interested and motivated.

At the end of writing your PhD dissertation, you will usually still have some unanswered question. This is very common.   That is why you have to set a finish date.  Otherwise, you will just keep on collecting data and never finish writing your PhD dissertation.  The number of questions that your research raises is also a judgement of its worth.  If your PhD dissertation research does not leave anything unanswered, then it would not be that interesting to some of the examiners of your research.  If it has more questions than it answers, it is a seed for further development.  As long as you know what remains unanswered, you can put the unanswered questions into your thesis.  List the questions you have answered in your thesis and be sure to show how this information fits into previous research studies and theorists.
